1.    Total Ration Balancing: Because the forage is the most important part of the horse’s diet, and all forages are not created equal, Buckeye Nutrition will recommend a grain mix to complement the type of hay and/or pasture you are feeding.  This will balance your horse’s TOTAL daily diet.  

2.    Prenatal Nutrition: From conception to birth, prenatal nutrition is very important.  Proper feeding during the first and second trimesters is just as important as the third in reducing the incidence of nutrition-related growth problems.  Body tissues, including cartilage, are formed throughout the entire gestational period.  Adequate nutrition during this time is required to ultimately form strong, healthy bones and other organs

3.    Growth Rates: Whether they’re growing rapidly or slow and easy, measuring and charting growth rates of foals is essential because their mineral intakes need to be matched with their growth rate.  Larger, faster growing foals require increased protein, mineral, and vitamin levels rather than less.  Buckeye Nutrition’s Growth & Performance Chart is used to monitor growth rate and then feed accordingly.

4.    Performance:  The performance horse needs more energy dense feeds that contain several calorie sources, often fats.  This helps to reduce the risk of soluble carbohydrate (sugar and starch) overload while still meeting the horses increased nutritional needs. Protein, mineral, and vitamin levels must also be appropriate for optimal metabolism and improved performance.
